Description

This Ground Beef Bulgogi recipe is a quick and flavorful take on the classic Korean dish. Made with savory, slightly sweet ground beef, it’s infused with garlic, soy sauce, and sesame oil for a rich, authentic taste. Perfect for busy weeknights, this dish can be served over steamed rice, wrapped in lettuce, or paired with noodles for a comforting, satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce (low-sodium preferred)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional for garnish)
  • 1 small carrot, julienned (optional)
  • 1/2 onion, finely chopped (optional)
  • Cooked white rice, for serving
  • Lettuce leaves (optional, for wraps)

Instructions

  • Prepare the Sauce:
In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, brown sugar, sesame oil, minced garlic, ginger, black pepper, and rice vinegar.

  • Cook the Beef:
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a spatula, until browned and cooked through (about 5-7 minutes).

  • Add Vegetables (Optional):
Stir in chopped onion and carrots and cook for another 2-3 minutes until slightly softened.

  • Add the Sauce:
Pour the sauce over the cooked beef mixture. Stir well to coat all the meat evenly. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.

  • Garnish and Serve:
Remove from heat, sprinkle with green onions and sesame seeds. Serve over steamed rice or wrap in lettuce leaves for a low-carb option.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
  • Add a pinch of red pepper flakes or gochujang (Korean chili paste) for some heat.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days in the refrigerator.
