Description
Boston Baked Beans candy is a classic old-fashioned treat featuring roasted peanuts coated in a sweet, crunchy candy shell. Despite their name, they don’t contain beans but are named after the famous New England dish due to their similar appearance. These candy-coated peanuts are perfect for snacking, gifting, or adding to party mixes.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups raw peanuts
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup water
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon red food coloring (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare a Baking Sheet – Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
- Make the Sugar Syrup – In a medium saucepan, combine sugar, water, salt, and red food coloring. Heat over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves.
- Coat the Peanuts – Add the raw peanuts to the sugar syrup, stirring continuously until the mixture thickens and begins to crystallize around the peanuts.
- Caramelize the Coating – Continue cooking and stirring until the sugar melts into a glossy, hard shell around the peanuts.
- Cool and Harden – Spread the coated peanuts onto the prepared baking sheet. Let them cool completely before breaking them apart.
- Store and Enjoy – Transfer to an airtight container and store at room temperature
Notes
- Red Food Coloring: The traditional red color is optional but adds authenticity.
- Crunchier Texture: To achieve a super-crunchy shell, bake the coated peanuts in a preheated oven at 300°F (150°C) for 10 minutes.
- Storage: Store in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks
