Ingredients
Ingredients
✅ Serves 4
- 4 large russet potatoes (best for fluffy texture)
- 2 tbsp olive oil (or melted butter for richer flavor)
- 1 tbsp kosher salt (for a crispy, flavorful skin)
- ½ tsp black pepper (adds a mild kick)
- Optional toppings:
- Sour cream
- Shredded cheddar cheese
- Crispy bacon bits
- Chives or green onions
- Salsa & avocado (for a Tex-Mex twist)
- Greek yogurt & fresh herbs (for a healthier option)
Instructions
Step 1: Prep the Potatoes
1️⃣ Wash and scrub the potatoes thoroughly under running water. Pat them dry with a paper towel.
2️⃣ (Optional) Poke each potato 3–4 times with a fork to allow steam to escape. This helps prevent bursting.
3️⃣ Rub each potato with olive oil or melted butter, then sprinkle evenly with salt and pepper.
Step 2: Preheat the Grill
🔥 Gas Grill: Preheat to 400°F (medium heat).
🔥 Charcoal Grill: Arrange hot coals for indirect heat, keeping one side cooler.
🔥 Pellet or Smoker Grill: Set to 375°F–400°F for steady heat.
Step 3: Grill the Potatoes
➡️ Foil-Wrapped Method (For Soft Skin)
1️⃣ Wrap each potato tightly in aluminum foil, sealing the edges.
2️⃣ Place them on the indirect heat side of the grill.
3️⃣ Close the lid and cook for 45–60 minutes, flipping every 15 minutes.
4️⃣ Check for doneness by piercing with a fork or thermometer (205°F internally is perfect).
➡️ No-Foil Method (For Crispy Skin)
1️⃣ Place potatoes directly on the grill grates over indirect heat.
2️⃣ Grill for 45–50 minutes, flipping every 15 minutes.
3️⃣ In the last 10 minutes, move them to direct heat to crisp the skin.
Step 4: Serve with Toppings
1️⃣ Remove the potatoes from the grill and let them cool for 5 minutes.
2️⃣ Slice open, fluff the insides with a fork, and add your favorite toppings!
Notes
✅ For faster cooking, microwave the potatoes for 5 minutes before grilling.
✅ Want extra crispy skin? Skip the foil and rub the potatoes with olive oil & coarse salt before grilling.
✅ No grill? You can achieve a similar smoky flavor by baking the potatoes in a 400°F oven for 50–60 minutes and finishing them on a stovetop grill pan for a crispy touch.
✅ Pair with grilled meats, fish, or veggies for the ultimate BBQ meal!
